What raw material actually costs on arrival in the Americas: declared customs value divided by weight, country by country and year by year, from official United Nations data.
A search engine returns portal prices — numbers someone typed so you would ask for a quote. This page does not. Every figure here is the average of what was actually paid as the goods cleared that country's customs, as the country itself reported it to the United Nations.
Every figure describes the same trade: what moves from the tracked origins to the tracked markets, declared from both ends. The shipping price is FOB value — goods loaded at the origin port — and the landing price is CIF, freight and insurance included, before duties. Each is declared value divided by net weight, so it averages every shipment of the period and mixes grades, formats and order sizes. Use it to know the order of magnitude a material moves in and how it is trending; it does not replace a quote for a specific grade.
An empty cell does not mean there is no trade: it means that country did not declare weight on enough shipments to compute an honest price. A figure is only published when 80% of the imported value carries kilos with it.
The tables show each country's most recent year with data; where that year is not the latest of all, it is noted next to the volume. “Chg.” compares that year with the one immediately before. The full five-year run is in each heading's collapsible panel.
**The gap between the departure price and the landing price is not freight**, and that is why it is not published as such. The two customs authorities declaring the same shipment do not agree with each other: they differ on how they classify the goods, how they value them, who gets credited with a re-export and when they register it. For these headings that discrepancy is the same order of magnitude as the CIF-FOB margin one would need to isolate, so subtracting the two prices does not separate it from the noise. Each price on its own is a solid measurement; the gap between them does not measure transport.
